Overview
Barot FRH is located on the right bank of the river Uhl, at an altitude of 1,835m. This is a part of the Joginder Nagar Forest Division and has five sets of rooms. Barot came into prominence in the 1920s when the Shannan hydro-power project was constructed with holding tanks at Barot. The Kangra Valley Railway was built to ferry material to the base at Jogindernagar and from there, a haulage trolley transported equipment four thousand feet up the hillside and lowered it an equal distance on the other side. Both the railway and the trolley exist to the present-day. By road, the access to Barot is from Jhatingri where the rulers of Mandi had a summer-palace.
